Cold Water Bay (or Bestas Liman)

Cold Water Bay

You can get anything you want at Ali's Restaurant Cold Water Bay (properly Bestas Liman but also known as Ali's Cove) is only a couple of miles around the corner from Gemiler Island but possibly worth a visit in its own right or as an alternative.

It gets its name from a cold water spring that bubbles up in one corner of the bay, so you can experience a sudden 20 degree temperature drop while swimming in that corner

The bay is popular with day boats for the swimming and rock diving (for those brave or foolhardy enough) but is much quieter in the evening.

Ali Tuna's restaurant, just up the hill from the bay (see picture), is worth visiting.

Kayakoy

Kayakoy, the ghost village Cold Water Bay is also a good starting point for a walk over the hills to the deserted village of Kayakoy.

Kayakoy was a Greek village abandoned in 1923 under the population exchange agreement, inhabited now by tourists during the day and by ghosts at night and has a beautiful Greek Orthodox basilica.
